My go-to is definitely my own bank's ATM inside my local grocery store. It checks all the boxes: no fees, it is well lit and safe because the store is open 24/7, and I am already there shopping for convenience. I avoid standalone ATMs in quiet areas, especially at night. The potential fee and safety worry are not worth it.
