Understanding Official Pickleball Court Dimensions

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to clarify the official dimensions for a standard pickleball court. I know it’s smaller than a tennis court, but I’m unsure about the exact measurements for length, width, and the non-volley zone (kitchen).

Also, what are the recommended sidelines and baselines, and how much space should be left around the court for safe play? I’ve seen some variations online, and I want to make sure I get it right for setting up a backyard court versus an indoor facility.

Any diagrams, official references, or personal experiences would be really helpful. Thanks!

A standard pickleball court is 20 feet wide and 44 feet long for both singles and doubles. The non-volley zone (kitchen) extends 7 feet from the net on each side. The net is 36 inches high at the sidelines and 34 inches at the center. When considering pickleball court specs, it is recommended to have extra space around the court, at least 5 feet on the sidelines and 8 feet behind the baselines, giving a total play area of about 30 by 60 feet minimum, though 34 by 64 feet is preferred for comfort. This applies for both backyard and indoor courts.
