Question for the gem experts here: I keep seeing GRS certification mentioned for colored stones, especially rubies and emeralds. How does GRS differ from other labs? Is it actually better for colored gems?

Good question! GRS certification for gemstones https://gemexpertise.wordpress.com/...p-insight-into-color-origin-and-authenticity/ is specifically highly regarded for colored stones. GemResearch Swisslab (GRS) specializes in advanced color grading and origin determination - two critical factors for colored gem value. Their color grading system uses terms like 'vivid,' 'intense,' and 'royal' that have become industry standards. They're particularly strong with rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and rare stones like alexandrite. While GIA is excellent for diamonds and general identification, GRS carved out a specialized niche in colored gemstones with more detailed color analysis and origin reports. Many high-end dealers and auction houses specifically request GRS for premium colored stones. Both labs are reputable, but for colored gems where subtle color differences mean huge price variations, GRS's expertise really shines.
