Hi everyone,

I’m currently worldbuilding a fantasy novel and struggling to come up with compelling male character names. I’m looking for names that feel authentic to a high-fantasy setting—something memorable, culturally distinct, and easy to pronounce. Ideally, the names should evoke a sense of magic, heroism, or mystery without being overly complicated.

I’d love examples from different fantasy cultures, whether inspired by elves, dwarves, or entirely original societies. Any advice on crafting names, patterns to follow, or resources for generating ideas would be incredibly helpful.

What are your favorite male fantasy names and why?

Hi! Naming male characters in a fantasy world can be tricky, but thinking about the culture and tone you want the name to convey helps a lot. For elves, soft and flowing names like Elarion, Thalion, or Caelir work beautifully, while dwarves often suit harsher, more guttural names such as Bromgar, Thruk, or Keldrin. When coming up with fantasy names male, it’s helpful to focus on patterns, pronunciation, and meaning—names like Aelric, Kaelen, Lucien, Varin, or Althar feel memorable, heroic, and fitting for a magical setting. Drawing inspiration from mythology or combining syllables from different languages can also create unique and authentic names.
