Good morning folks! Quick question about buying used MacBooks. I'm looking at a couple of listings online, but I'm worried about activation lock issues. Is there a way to check if a Mac has Find My iPhone/FMI turned on before I meet the seller? Don't want to waste my time or get stuck with a locked device.

Good morning! Smart move checking this before buying — activation lock on Macs is a real headache if it's enabled. Yes, there's definitely a way to verify this remotely before meeting up. You can use an FMI status checker by entering the Mac's serial number. I always use mac fmi check services before purchasing any used Apple device. What you need to do is ask the seller for the serial number (which is totally reasonable and any legit seller will provide), then run it through an FMI checker to see if Find My Mac is ON or OFF. If it shows ON, either ask the seller to disable it before the meeting or just walk away from the deal. A reputable seller should have no problem signing out of iCloud in front of you. The check usually takes just a few minutes and can save you from buying a glorified paperweight. This works for MacBooks, iMacs, and even AirPods. Always verify the status shows OFF before handing over any money — if the seller refuses to provide the serial number or can't disable FMI, that's a massive red flag!
