At first, we looked at the automatic employee schedule generator as something magical, like “one button - and everyone is happy”. But the reality, as often happens, is a little more complicated, although not disappointing - on the contrary. I work as a shift manager in a large contact center, we have three departments, more than 80 employees who work in shifts, taking into account weekends, sick leaves, vacations, and so on. Previously, we had a “scheduling madness” every month - Excel, correspondence in Telegram, a pile of papers with requests for weekends. When we switched to Shifton, the first thing I did was spend three evenings learning how the automatic generator works correctly. Here's the trick: if you don't give the system clear rules, it won't come up with them itself. For example, each employee can work no more than 5 days in a row, with no more than 2 night shifts per week. There are also wishes - someone consistently wants not to work on Sundays, someone asks for early shifts. All this must be specified in detail in the employee cards: in the "preferences", "limits" and "rotations" sections.
