Modafinil and Ritalin are not the same, although both are prescribed to improve alertness and focus. Modafinil is primarily used to treat sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and shift work sleep disorder, and works by promoting wakefulness through different neurological pathways. Ritalin (methylphenidate), on the other hand, is a central nervous system stimulant commonly prescribed for ADHD and narcolepsy. It directly increases dopamine and norepinephrine levels. Due to differences in mechanism, medical use, and side-effect profiles, these medications are not interchangeable and should only be used under medical guidance.
