How Much Should I Expect to Pay for Door Repairs?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to determine the typical cost of door repairs. My front door has some damage, mainly scratches, a slightly misaligned frame, and a squeaky hinge. I’m not sure if it’s worth fixing or if I should just replace it.

I’ve received a few quotes, but they vary widely, and I’m unsure what’s reasonable. Could anyone share their recent experiences with door repair costs? Specifically, I’m interested in both labor and parts, as well as whether the costs differ for wooden versus metal doors.

Any advice or tips to keep costs down would be appreciated!

Hi!

For your door, minor scratches can cost around $50 to $150 to fix. A slightly misaligned frame usually costs $100 to $250 to adjust or rehange. Squeaky hinges are cheap, $5 to $20 each if replaced, or just lubricating them is almost free. Factors affecting door repair costs include the type of door, extent of damage, and whether specialized materials or labor are needed.

Wooden doors are generally easier and cheaper to repair, while metal doors can be pricier due to welding or specialized paint. To save money, you could do small touch-ups yourself, lubricate hinges, or get multiple quotes from handymen.

Overall, small repairs might total $100 to $300, but if the door or frame is badly damaged, replacement may be more cost-effective.
