Hi everyone,

I'm new to using metric tools and I need some help. I'm trying to take precise measurements for a DIY project, and I'm not sure I'm doing it right. Specifically, I want to know how to measure in centimeters correctly. For example, should I start at the zero mark on the ruler or the edge?

Also, how do I read smaller divisions between centimeters? Any tips or tricks you’ve learned for improving accuracy would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

To get accurate results, always begin at the zero mark on the ruler, not the edge, which can give false readings. When you measure in centimeters, it’s important to understand the scale: each numbered line equals 1 centimeter, and the smaller lines in between are millimeters (10 per centimeter). This helps you measure with greater precision.

A helpful tip: keep the ruler steady and view it straight from above to avoid parallax errors. With a bit of practice, you’ll be measuring like a pro in no time.
