Hey everyone!

I've recently gotten into exploring international comics, and I’m curious about Dutch comics. I know that the Netherlands has a rich comic culture, but I'm not sure where to start. Are there any iconic Dutch comics that are a must-read?

How do they compare to other European comic traditions like the French-Belgian style? I'd love recommendations for both historical and contemporary works, whether graphic novels or series. Also, are there any lesser-known gems from Dutch creators that I should check out?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Dutch comics!

Dutch comics have a unique charm and are worth exploring. One iconic example is Tom Poes by Marten Toonder, which combines humor, adventure, and social commentary, making it a beloved classic. Another major name is Marc Sleen with De avonturen van Nero, a series known for its absurd humor and imaginative storytelling. If you're looking for something more contemporary, S1ngle provides a satirical look at modern life in the Netherlands, while Paul van Loon’s Dolfje Weerwolfje is a fun and popular series for younger readers about a werewolf child. When diving into the world of Dutch comics, you'll find that they often share similarities with French-Belgian traditions but tend to lean more into playful and absurd humor with a unique perspective on society and culture.
