Hi everyone,

I’m in the market for a compact bed solution for a small bedroom and came across the idea of a small single ottoman bed. I like that it offers storage underneath, but I’m unsure about comfort, durability, and ease of use on a daily basis.

Does anyone have experience with these beds? Are they practical for everyday sleeping, or better suited for occasional use? Also, any tips on materials, brands, or styles that maximize both storage and comfort would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

Hi! I’ve used one daily, and they’re actually very practical if you choose a sturdy model. The storage underneath is excellent for bedding or clothes. A small single ottoman bed is great because the lift mechanism (especially gas-lift ones) makes access easy, and it doesn’t take up extra room. For durability, look for solid wood or metal frames rather than cheap particleboard. Make sure your mattress isn’t too heavy, so lifting is manageable. Brands like Silentnight or Argos offer reliable options. Overall, it works well for everyday use while giving you the bonus of hidden storage.

I had the same issue when looking for single ottoman beds for a small room, so you’re definitely not alone.

A few things that helped me narrow it down:

  • Side-lift vs end-lift – side-lift works better if the bed is close to a wall
  • Gas lift strength – cheaper ones can feel heavy once you put a mattress on
  • Internal storage depth – some “ottoman” beds barely give you space, so check the measurements
  • Low footboard or no footboard – makes the room feel less cramped

If storage is your main reason, it’s honestly one of the best space-saving options compared to drawers.

I ended up browsing a few options from Ottoman Beds, and they had some compact single sizes that didn’t feel bulky at all. Worth a look just to compare specs, even if you don’t buy straight away.

Hope that helps — small rooms are a nightmare until you find the right bed.
