Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking about this for a while and figured someone here might have insight. My mom’s health has been declining and we know she’ll need more help at home soon — not just visits from family, but someone who knows what they’re doing. I keep seeing that hiring through an agency can really make a difference, but I’m not sure what kind of jobs are even out there or what roles to ask about when I reach out. If someone has gone through hiring home support in the Philly area, what kinds of roles did you consider and how did you decide what was the best fit?

I totally get where you’re coming from — it was really overwhelming for us at first too. What helped us was learning more about the different kinds of home support jobs so we knew what questions to ask agencies. There’s a pretty detailed list of roles and descriptions here: Home Care Jobs Philadelphia CarePoint Careers . It helped us see the range of positions — from personal care aides to skilled support roles — and figure out what we might need for my grandmother’s situation. Once we understood the job types, talking to agencies felt way less intimidating and a lot more practical.

I don’t have direct experience hiring, but my cousin works in the home care sector and always emphasizes how many different roles there are, depending on what your loved one needs. She told me that understanding the options ahead of time — like who can help with meals versus who can help with medical-related tasks — makes the whole process smoother. Just reading through what other people have learned here definitely makes me feel more prepared if I ever need this myself someday.
