I thought it was awful. I was really looking forward to it, then I played for about three hours and was done with the Story and reached max Level 30. Though it all looks pretty good (Rasputin, Xol, the icy side of Mars) I disliked that it's so short and also that the story has some major plot holes. Rasputin has always been on that side of Mars? Are you kidding me? We had Mars as a Planet from Day 1 of Destiny 1 and the Vanguard was trying to figure stuff out about Rasputin when it's right on the surface of the other side of Mars? ... Did no one ever fly around there and saw it or what. Also Ana probably knew all about it, so what's the deal with mysterious Rasputin in D1 when it was widely known her family built the facility on Mars and it's where he is.
And then the worst part, Xol, the worm god. Second to only the darkness itself. More Powerful than Crota, Oryx or any Hive we encountered. And what happens? We shoot at him like 4 Minutes and he's dead. Like... what? It took us forever to kill Oryx and Crota and this super powerful god just... does nothing and dies in a matter of minutes?
Nokris and Xol are awesome characters. Now that could have made for a great story and raid, not that boring Cabal circus ship. But no, those great characters are wasted in two missions where they basically do nothing but try to get to Rasputin (who apparently is powerful enough to protect all of mankind but can't fight off a stupid worm that even a guardian can shoot in a few minutes).
I'm sorry but what is this crap?
EDIT: Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I was that guy who ordered the T-Shirts, led his own clan, loved the game to bits. And now it's just one disappointment after another. I really hope they'll do a huge DLC like Taken King, bring back random rolls, new weapons (let's face it they all look the same with a different name and color)... and maybe save this mess.
Hey Dani!! Welcome back!
I enjoyed the DLC. The story was 5 missions long which is what was expected as that has been the same for other DLCs. It did seem short, but the last two missions I did with friends and the missions went quickly.
With regards to the Clovis Bray facility in the polar caps of Mars. They explained that the facility had been buried for hundreds of years after the collapse of the Golden Age. So it was under lots of ice and no one could see it. It wasn't until the Traveler woke up that the ice started to melt and recede enough to expose the facility.
Were there some holes in the story. Yes. But I'll let the Lore junkies work that out. Such as how Vuvuzela found it before we did and got that deep into it to chastise us for being there.
I agree that Nokris and Xol were under utilized. But I'm not a story writer to be able to even begin to say how it should have been done.
I give it 3.5 of 5 stars. it was entertaining, the visuals were amazing. There is still a lot of stuff I need to do. I still haven't even finished the first phase of Escalation Protocal. Unlike the CURSE of Osiris where I was done in 2 hours and nothing left to do. Also, the music is amazing again as well.
All in all I believe it shows that Destiny 2 is going back in the direction we want it.
